Antique Victorian Oak Chest of Drawers with Inlay – c.1820s.

A superb Victorian oak chest of drawers, dating to around 1820 - 1840, with exceptional character and beautifully figured oak throughout.

The chest comprises four graduated drawers, each fitted with ornate antique brass handles and central escutcheons.

The drawer fronts are framed with moulded oak detailing and have a lovely, deeply patinated colour developed naturally over many years.

One of its most striking features is the decorative geometric inlaid band running across the frieze and continuing down the front corners.

The contrasting timbers create an attractive chequered effect and are a lovely example of the craftsmanship found on quality Victorian furniture.

The chest has panelled sides and stands on attractive shaped feet, with the whole piece retaining a wonderfully rich, warm antique finish. The oak has plenty of natural marks, grain variation and signs of age, giving it the character you would expect from a genuine Victorian piece.

A particularly practical feature is that the chest separates into two sections. This makes it considerably easier to move and means it can be delivered and installed even where there are small, narrow or awkward staircases — a very useful feature for an antique chest of this size.

A lovely and unusually decorative piece of Victorian oak furniture, combining excellent craftsmanship, figured oak and attractive original inlay.

Some wide boarded oak drawer bottoms have been replaced in oak and we will colour match these in a dark stain.

A superb large antique bank of drawers, full of character and with a wonderfully strong, almost industrial look.

Featuring eight substantial full-width drawers, each with attractive cup handles in a mixture of aged brass and copper tones.

The drawer fronts retain a lovely rich, warm timber finish which contrasts beautifully against the distressed black painted carcass.

The generous shallow drawers make this an incredibly useful piece, offering a huge amount of storage. Originally the sort of practical furniture associated with workshops, offices, map or plan storage, today it would make a fantastic statement piece in a large kitchen, shop, studio, office or living space.

The black paintwork has naturally worn and knocked edges throughout, giving it exactly the sort of genuine aged character and patina we like to see.

The timber drawer fronts also show plenty of age and use.

We have available this very cool multi drawer apothecary style dresser.

With 16 lower drawers, bracket feet and 2 door cupboard giving excellent storage.

The aged paint effect is superb and has great patina.

Victorian Pine Chest of Drawers with Original Scumble paint & Mirror

A particularly charming and unusual Victorian pine chest of drawers, retaining its wonderfully warm and characterful original scumbled paint finish throughout.

Dating from approximately 1880–1900, this handsome piece has an abundance of period character, with three generous full-width drawers, original turned wooden knobs and attractive shaped bracket-style feet.

The chest is surmounted by its superb original dressing mirror, complete with the distinctive shaped and pierced Victorian gallery and decorative side supports incorporating small candle or trinket shelves.

The original scumble is especially appealing, with the natural wear and patination acquired over many years giving the piece a wonderfully mellow, honey-coloured appearance. The painted decorative scrollwork to the top adds a particularly unusual and attractive detail.

The original mirror remains in place and gives the chest a striking presence, making this an excellent choice as a bedroom dressing chest, hallway piece or simply as a decorative and highly individual piece of Victorian furniture.

A lovely example for anyone looking for genuine Victorian pine with an untouched, original finish, rather than a piece that has been stripped and refinished.

This industrial-style grey display cabinet featuring a glass-door top section and multiple storage drawers in the lower section is made from a mixture of reclaimed and old pine.

This is superb and has an aged patina paint effect. The whole unit is made around and old arch top glazed set of doors in a frame.

These are superb storage and and have a superb look in any home.

12 good size drawers with original cup handles, arch doors, original glass, shaped cornice and sitting very handsomely on turned feet this is definitely a talking piece in any home.

Its big and in one piece so good access would be required for delivery.

We love what we do

The restoration on every item is huge.

This box was bought in gloss paint and the restoration goes as follows....

1, We strip the box in an acid bath called caustic soda that removes all the paint.

The acid bath is hot so it gives a nice colour once stripped. A cold bath is no good and makes the pine go very grey.

The temperature is very important depending on the items paint, varnish or stain... Two hot and it cooks it and drawers would fall apart and twist the pine... Too cold and it won't remove the paint and go grey .. medium temperature is just perfect.

2, The item is then pressure washed to remove the acid and excess caustic.

3, Then all items are naturally air dried on breezy warm sunny days. This can't be rushed as if it is or dried using false heat from heaters the item will not shine once waxed and caustic white residue appears through the wax once it arrives in a centrally heated home.

4, All wood work is completed, reattach any beadings, plinths, piece a missing section from old pine or remake a bit of a drawer runner. This box needed no woodwork.

5, The item is then sanded in 120 or 150 grit sandpaper till nice and smooth.

The unit won't sand if it is not completely dry or the wood will not go smooth.

We don't over sand as this will remove the nice Victorian colour from the stripping.

6, Everything is then covered with lots white vinegar that naturalizes any remainder or caustic soda acid.

7, Air dried again after the white vinegar.

8, A light hand sand / pad off.

9, Then the items are ready for waxing.

This is done by hand using Briwax medium brown p7. Depending on the shade more coast can be added if required.

Not every item is a 5 minute job and can take a while to get the best restored Victorian pine items to sell.

We have over 70 boxes stripped and air drying and new ones getting finished each week. With chest of drawers, benches, linen presses and more always in a rotation of restoration we might just have the item you've always been looking for.

This Antique pine apothecary unit has a beautiful handsome stance with its 72 drawers and sitting on a reclaimed pine 4 door cupboard.

The unit is definitely a stand alone piece and a talking point in any home.

With a very striking deep Brinjal colour this still retains its original cup handles and has a perfect look with its aged patina.

handmade 7 drawer chest painted pine top

A 7 drawer jumper chest painted in Preference Red, aged brass knobs and scaffolding board waxed top.

These handmade units can be made to all sizes and this one was made shallower than standard as it was on a landing and the customer didn't want to restrict the passageway.

This one also had an old pine top added which was made from scaffold boards. As standard it comes with a new pine top but old, new oak or even painted tops can be added at an extra cost.

This amazing 6 drawer bank of chemist drawers is stunning.

One of the drawers has an original sticker of J.W Stainer from Folkestone as a pharmacy chemist.

The hand painting is beautifully done and it's definitely a talking point in any home.

The top has some slight ware but this just adds character to the overall item.

This is not the original painting but has been done extremely well and has been done a very long time.
