rare antique shopkeeper’s display dresser
£6,100.00
A superb and increasingly rare antique shopkeeper’s display dresser, dating to circa 1900 and originating from Eastern Europe. Recently removed from a working bakery, this impressive piece retains all the charm, character and practical features of traditional early 20th-century commercial furniture.
Constructed in pine with a beautiful original waxed finish, this substantial dresser has a wonderful warm patina, displaying the natural grain, knots and signs of age that make genuine antique pine furniture so appealing.
The upper section features an extensive arrangement of open display shelving, with numerous individual compartments ideal for displaying kitchenalia, pottery, tins, collectables and other merchandise.
At the centre is an attractive glazed cupboard, complete with decorative green glass panels above and turned detailing to the sides, adding a distinctive period touch.
Beneath the shelving is a particularly appealing run of traditional open fronted display bins, historically suited to presenting bakery goods, fruit and other produce.
The lower section incorporates multiple deep drawers fitted with original-style dark cup handles, offering excellent storage and completing the impressive shop-fitting design.
Measuring almost three metres wide, this is a truly substantial piece that would make an outstanding focal point in a farmhouse kitchen, traditional bakery, delicatessen, farm shop, restaurant or retail premises. Equally, it would be a remarkable addition to a private collection of antique shop fittings.
Original shop furniture of this scale, particularly a piece recently removed from a working bakery, is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Its combination of practical storage, authentic commercial character and original waxed pine finish makes it a particularly desirable example.
A rare opportunity to acquire an authentic antique shopkeeper’s display dresser with wonderful history and presence.
