Antique Victorian Pine Sideboard Dresser with Painted Faux-Marble top
£895.00
A superb and highly decorative late Victorian pine sideboard dresser, dating from circa 1890–1910, with a wonderfully characterful and extensively aged finish.
Constructed fully with a pine carcass, the dresser retains a beautifully rich, time-worn appearance, with the timber finished in warm, dark tones and decorated with intricate painted and stencilled detailing.
The outstanding feature is the substantial painted imitation marble top, decorated in a wonderfully atmospheric palette of deep green, olive, brown and muted ochre tones, carefully worked to replicate the veining and depth of genuine marble.
The heavily aged and distressed surface has acquired an exceptional patina through years of use.
The impressive upper section incorporates a large central mirror, turned supports, shaped display shelves and an elaborate carved pediment, crowned by a particularly striking carved foliate crest.
The lower section has two drawers with decorative antique brass handles above a pair of panelled cupboard doors, each featuring distinctive painted ornamental motifs.
Finished with an abundance of carved, moulded and scrolled decoration, this is an unusually elaborate piece of Victorian country furniture.
Circa 1880– 1910
A wonderfully atmospheric and unusual Victorian dresser, with the faux-marble top being a particularly distinctive feature.
The combination of the green painted surface, rich pine, carved decoration and aged patina gives the piece enormous character and makes it a real statement piece for a country kitchen, dining room or large entrance hall.
