Painted Victorian Display Cabinet / Bookcase.

£1,095.00

A charming and highly decorative late 19th-century painted pine display cabinet, dating to approximately 1880–1900, with strong French Provincial and Continental influences.
The cabinet has a particularly attractive shaped and carved architectural cornice, centred by an elaborate pierced floral and foliate crest.
The upper section features two glazed doors with beautifully scalloped and shaped glazing apertures, enclosing fixed shelves and providing excellent display space.
The lower section is fitted with two drawers over a pair of panelled cupboard doors, all decorated with elegant moulded and serpentine detailing.
The sides are enhanced by finely turned and carved spiral columns, while the whole piece stands on small turned feet.
The cabinet retains an old painted finish, which gives it a wonderfully soft, aged appearance with natural variation, wear and character throughout. It’s a worn wash style paint finish.
The combination of the carved decoration, original-style escutcheons and beautifully shaped panels makes this a particularly eye-catching piece of antique furniture.
Likely of Continental European origin, with the ornate carving and French Provincial influence giving it considerable decorative appeal.
A versatile piece that would work equally well as a display cabinet, bookcase, or kitchen/dining-room dresser.
