A charming antique Collinsons rocking horse, affectionately named ‘Bobbie’, with a wonderful traditional character and plenty of vintage appeal. Standing on its original-style wooden safety rocker, Bobbie features a beautifully worn dappled coat, flowing pale mane and tail, and an attractive red and tan leather saddle with decorative studded tack. The red, blue and brown detailing adds a lovely splash of colour, while the naturally aged paintwork gives this horse the authentic character that collectors so appreciate.
At 930mm high, Bobbie is a handsome example, with a slightly more modest size than some of the larger, heavily carved rocking horses. A delightful decorative piece for a traditional interior, nursery, country house or antique collection.
A little history
Collinsons was one of the recognised British makers of rocking horses, producing traditional wooden horses during the late Victorian and early 20th century periods. British rocking horses were carefully crafted and hand-finished, becoming treasured childhood possessions that were often passed down through generations. Today, original examples are sought after by collectors for their craftsmanship, distinctive painted finishes and nostalgic charm.
