A little history
Collinson’s was one of the best-known British makers of rocking horses, with a history dating back to the Victorian period. The company became particularly renowned for its traditional carved wooden horses, hand-painted finishes and carefully crafted rocking mechanisms. Antique Collinson’s horses remain highly sought after by collectors and make wonderful decorative pieces for traditional interiors, country houses and antique collections.
Large examples such as ‘Primrose’ have real presence and make an impressive statement, whether displayed in a nursery, hallway, country home or as part of a collection of traditional toys.
A charming and substantial piece of British toy-making heritage, with bags of character and decorative appeal.
The firm J. Collinson & Sons traded in Liverpool from 1836 until 1993, remaining a family business for five generations. Queen Victoria’s reported visit in 1851 is closely associated with the maker’s distinctive dapple-grey horses.
